Default COP's

Alright, I am just trying to rule things out when it comes to my car not running right. So from some suggestions of some i did a resistance test on my COP's. my haynes book says that the primary resistance should be .5 ohms and the secondary resistance should be 5.5K ohms.

I used my ohm meter and got the following #'s on my COP's:

1P - .8
1S - 5.5K

2P - .7
2S - 5.48K

3P - .7
3S - 5.49K

4P - .8
4S - 5.48K

5P - .8
5S - 5.59K

6P - .8
6S - 5.43K

7P - .8
7S - 5.44K

8P - .8
8S - 5.45

so what do i gather from this? [/align]

how did you check/test the cops? Seems your primary resistance is high, I can't say what problem that would cause though

More resistance = less power getting to your plugs which = misfires = bad idle = poor combustion = bad mpg =.... Get it?

Your chilton says what the acceptible K omh resistance for secondary and for the primary. If they are within reason of each other and there's not any huge difference between any of them then your fine.

thanks for the lesson (and no sarcasm there).the haynes book says .5 on the primary is acceptable. does this mean that the .8 is okay or no?

Double check your book, I think it says if it is anything but the specs it is bad and needs to be replaced. There was no +- of the spec.
