Default supercharge 02 gt

Hello all, this is my first post. ive got an 02 gt 2v with 60,000 miles. ive been wanting to supercharge her for awhile. question is with a stock motor how much boost is safe? i want to go centrifugal. i was thinking vortech. this setup needs to be very reliable since its my daily driver. whats going to be the weakest, or first thing to go engine wise? thanks ahead.

keep it around 400RWHP and you SHOULD be fine. make sure to get it tuned. there's never a guarantee though.

+1 with both guys, just keep it at a reasonable hp (400rwhp or less even) and you SHOULD be fine. When running F/I there is no guarantee that your motor wont crap at 350rwhp...ive read about it on forums. Just make sure you upgrade the fuel correctly and get a trust worth tune and dont beat on the car 24/7 and it should last you a good amount of time. The first thing most likely to go on these motors is the rods btw.

The first thing to go is most likely the rods. The primary reason rods go is detonation (spark knock). That is why the tune is so important. I would recommend that you do not use a mail order tune but get a dyno tune before you ever drive the car. A lot of tuners try to keep a daily driver around 370 rwhp (about 435 hp at the crank). But even at low boost there are no gaurantees. My tuner told me that he knowsa carthat has been running 420 rwhp for a couple of yearsbut he has seen one at 350 rwhp blow up on the dyno. And the risk is all yours. All tuners have you sign waivers before they will tune your car.

That said, a supercharge sure makes driving a Mustang more fun.

I wanna do the same thing with my 02 gt. Haven't done much research yet, cuz its gonna be a while yet before i get the money... ha. But how much would it cost to get 400 hp? I'd be happy with 370 as well. just curious to what the cost would be....

^ That really varies with what s/c setup you decide to go. On average, I would say be ready to spend atleast $4k if you buy a complete package and do the install yourself.

Costs vary but this may give you a general idea on the cost to get to 370+ rwhp:

Supercharger kit $4,700
Misc. Parts 100
Installation1,000
Gages 350
Installation 150
Dyno tune 400
Rough total $6,700 + tax
Unless you have other supporting mods, the supercharger would need to be running 10 lbs of boost. An intercooler is highly recommended for anything over 6-8 lbs. The kit should come with the intercooler, fuel pump, fuel injectors, and tuning chip. Miscellaneous parts include spark plugs and fan belt. It is highly recommended that you get gages with your set up including fuel pressure or A/F ratio gages. And, as another thread has pointed out. Get it dyno tuned before you drive it.

another thing to consider is current mods. Its perfectly safe generally to make 400 WHP on a full boltons/blown car, but on a stock one I would keep it around 370ish at the most.

The more boltons/engine parts you have, the easier it is to make xxx whp, without going crazy with the boost levels or tune.
