starting problem
Hi there I am a newbie so bare with me.. I just got my 1998 mustang and it has a starting problem. The dealer said it has something to do with the anti theft system. When you shut the car off, it is sometimes hard to get started. You turn the key of and the doors unlock but when you turn it back on sometimes they lock and the car will start and sometimes they won't and the car won't start. Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be appriecated.

RE: starting problem
first off, check your battery connection...if theres any oxidation use a wire brush to get it off, then fasten the connectors. Is your check engine light on at all??? Bring it to the dealership.

RE: starting problem
Yes I have the original Ford key. No my check engine light is not on. I have found that if i get in with the key off and hit the lock button, then try to start the car it starts right up. but if the car is not locked when you try to start the car there is no power to anything.
Thanks

RE: starting problem
Valet setting? What the heck is that? Why would the valet need to be locked in to start the car? I didn't realize any of the Mustangs had auto door locks....
I did read somewhere that other keys or metal touching or too close to your key will cause the security system to act weird, maybe even be unable to read the security key.

Is this an aftermarket alarm? The clifford alarm I had in an 01 I sold would unlock and lock the doors when you started or shutoff the car, and I remeber once it doing what you described, but only once. If its aftermarket take it to a good car stereo/alarm shop and have them look at it. If its factory or not a very good one, maybe you should just replace it.
