in a nutshell, what most people are telling you is that if you plan on going to the track and hooking up, don't go with them. If you just need a decent tire to get you to and from, then the Sumi will work just fine for you.

+1 I had the sumi's for about a year. They are great to get you from point a to b, but that's it. I had horrible traction in wet weather, but all in all, not bad for price. I highly recommend you get a set of DR's though. I love my nitto's.

As you can see it's all personal preference man. Only you know how you drive. You'll have to try out what you can and make a decision on whether or not to continue getting them or not. That is how most anything is on cars.

i have ran across a lot of great deals for these tires under 100 ....has anyone used them or know anything about them?
Another tire in that price range to consider is the General Exclaim UHP. I have a few 1000 miles on mine and they look brand new.
They are a quiet smooth tire as well.

Much like the Sumitomos people on Tirerack either love them or hate them.

The bad part is that the sidewall is soft which of course gives the car a nice smooth ride but you don't have the "riding on rails" feeling of the stock gators... Still, the handling seems just as good, just different. I haven't squealed them on corners yet but I'll admit I miss the "rifding on rails" feeling as I am more of a corner carver than a drag strip type.

What tires that are reasonably priced have stiff sidewalls?

I got the Generals too and I agree 100% with your assessment. Grip is not bad at all and I was suprised. When I bought the unit and saw "Generals" I was like, "Oh ****....gonna need new rubber!!" Not a bad street tire for launching the unit but not the tire to have if you prefer a stiff sidewall. Its a bit droopy.
I would seriously consider looking at Avon's summer tire. I had the Avon Tech AS550 all seasons recently and thought it might be the best all around tire Ive ever had for an all season. Tire Rack rates them well..........and exceptional wear too........

Look at Nexen N3000's. They are a great tire for the price, had them on my 02 GT.
