knocking on startup
ok, so on tuesday the stang made a slight knocking noise for about 5 seconds after it set all night. i thought it was a fluke and went for a drive to work and i didnt have the noise after it started again with the engine warm. then after setting all night, wednesday morning it did it again. so i changed the oil to see if it would solve the problem. i checked the old oil to see if smelled burned or had metal pieces in it. i didnt find anything other than 2200 mile old Mobile 1 synthetic. well its stilldoing it. what would cause this??
thanx guys! so i'm gunna have to park it until i have the money to see if its piston slap or a spun bearing... which totally sucks cause a few weeks ago i finally got it back from have a a bad fuel pump driver module and a short in the wiring harness in the loom....
alright, i wasnt sure on that cause i remember one the senior techs saying that if you had a spun bearing then there would be metal shavings in the oil. i guess i'll get on alldata this afternoon and see what i can find out about to how check for piston slap...i cant afford a new engine though...not by any means...
With the spun bearings I've had the noise did not go away when the motor warmed up. The knock was originally quiet at idle and worsened with higher rpm. Then it just knocked all the time. I've had lifters (pushrod motor) that knock on startup and then get quiet as the motor warmed up. It might be a sticking lash adjuster.
