I was just wondering how I can further reduce the weight of my 04 auto vert. I never fill the tank more than 1/3 of the way, and took out the spare/jack. Beyond that, are there any mods that justify the cost for weight reduction, or are they so expensive that putting money into hp/drivetrain mods at this point is a better bet?

Nevermind, i found this:

Front sway bar- It weighs about 20 lbs and the removal of it also helps in weight transfer wich yeilds a better 60ft.Rear end weight-It weighs about 15 lbs and really doesnt serve a purpose.Rear bumper- the rear bumper weighs a good 40+ lbsRelocate battery to the rear- Doesnt save any weight but aids in weight transfer and traction.Aluminum heads- This saves you about 25lbs per headAluminum driveshaft- The weight savings ios minimal but it does help you come off the line better.manual steering rack- This saves you about 20 lbs and adds a few HP cause your engine no longer has to turn the power steerinf pump.

 

Wheels and tires.

 

The engine probably ways a dece3nt amount. You could always pull that.

 

Isn't it beneficial to keep the spare tire in the trunk? so it keeps weight on top of the rear wheels?

 

The only "15lb rear weight" would be the rear wheel chaulks, their located behind the rear wheels and tie into the rear bumper. Their purpose is to wedge your wheels in the case of a rear end collision. Removing the rear bumper can help, but not might be such a bright idea daily driving, small rear end collisions will go right to your trunk panels. Your heads are aluminum already. A manual steering rack is less beneficial to do with our hydroboost systems, you'll still retain the ps pump to drive the brake booster, which retains much of the weight. Sounds like that list was more geared to a fox...but a good start.

 

If you worried about weight then why did you buy a vert?

 

The "15 lb weight" couldbe a reference to the vibration dampener "dog bone" that hangs beneath the pinion bearing housing. It's 9 lbs on my '03 (I just weighed it), and can be removed with no ill effects other then slightly increased noise from therear-end. [/align][/align]You will need two shorter 3/8-16 bolts (1-1/2" to 1-3/4") to refasten the pinion snubberwhich shares mounting bolts with the dog bone. The pinion snubber should not be removed if you have the OEM links and bushings.[/align]

 

You have an auto vert. Thats your problem right there.
