not to highjack this thread, but could somebody explain why one would opt for stage 1 cams when stage 2 cams are the same price? i know with stage 2 cams u need to upgrade the valve springs, but wouldn't they yield more power?

no they don't necessarily yeild more power...just a greater potential if you upgrade to a S/C and other things.

like i would only go for stage 1 now cuz i don't plan on S/C til out of college...cuz im only 16 and a S/C isn't rle needed haha.

and to the OP you would just need a tune for the stage 1 cams.

Stage 1 cams are usually designed as a street style cam. ie more usable power were you need it. As you move up in stages then the design of the cam change for the drivers needs. ie strip car power is more in the upper rpm range, that you would not normally hit while driving on the street. Stage 2 cam would usually be more sluggish off the line because the usable power is in the upper RPM range so getting gears help this stylecam. Most people think the bigger the cam the better and thats not always the truth. You have to look at the whole setup (parts working together). And to say that a stage 2 cam is good for a super charger is just not true. The VE of that cam would make it a bad choice. ie too much overlap= wasted boost out the pipes. Do not pick a N/A cam for a supercharger. It will sound good, but wont perform like it should. To the OP learn to read a cam card and understand how VE play a role in howyour car will perform. And then decide if thats what your goals are for your car.

With those cams, you can retain the stock valve springs and tune. However, since you're in there already, the springs would be a good idea. As for the tune, MM&FF says that you can get away with the stock tune, but you'll get the most from those cams with a tune.
