I have been having trouble with my mustang making pinging noises. I went to Autozone and the decoded service engine light spit out the codes P0401 and P0402. I have also been getting horrible gas milage. It is a 2002 mustang with the V6 engine. Any suggestions?

 

Need a new DPFE sensor.

DO NOT let Autozone talk you into buying a new EGR valve, I hear about this crap all the time. Replace the sensor.

 

Is this a pretty common problem on mustangs? I took a look and it looks like a new sensor runs about 80 bucks. Is there a way to test this theory out before I spend the money?


The DPFE sensor is probally just clogged with carbon right? Is there a way to clean this out?

 

does the DPFE sensor go by a seperate name? I can find one at autozone but not at Orielly. Are these pretty common parts or do you have to go through the dealer?

 

You wont find them at Autozone or what the other place is either. P0401 is very common on FORDS being the DPFE sensor... BUT you also have a Po402 code also. I would go to a FORD dealership and check to see if they will warranty it for you. DPFE's went so often FORD published a RECALL on them. So check it out.... i can check it for you if you dont wanna go there. Just give me youre VIN.
