car bogging out horribly
I went to the strip today to see what my car would run. I was hoping for 8.8's, but was greatly dissapointed in the times. The 1st I ran good, 9.29 @ 79.69 with a bad reaction time of 1.5 sec. Hoped to improve it but before the 2nd run I started the car and it backfired, when I ran the car after this it bogged out horribly at 5-5500RPM-6,5000RPM. It did this consistenly the next 3 runs I had putting me in the 9.7-9.8 range. Does anyone here know what may be causing this problem with my car when it bogs out real bad in the high RPM range?
thanks

RE: car bogging out horribly
it has a custom dyno tune so that should be good, the fuel filter shouldn't be the problem because the car ran perfectly fine before it backfired, then it started to bog out bad on the top end.

well that's what I'm looking into right now, the ignition. I bought new spark plug wires today, didn't have time to install them though so hopefully tommorrow. Would I have to check every spark plug for problems or if something was wrong would they all be messed up in some way? I'm hoping it isn't the plugs because I just bought them when I installed the motor and the plugs/coil packs are still the stock ones from 1996. So if the plugs show no wear I'll replace the wires, if that doesn't help I'm going to do the coils, if that doesn't help I'll have to take it to a shop[&o]

did you check the plugs were at the proper gap before installing them? coils usually dont go out too often. (unless they are from one of my former VW's)
it all stems from the backfire. so check the plugs and go from there. were you running race gas or 93octane?

93 octane.

what do you mean by that?? I just put them in and threaded them into the hole until they were tight, was that the wrong thing to do or something? Or am I just misinterperating what you mean by "proper gap"?

Differentvehicles require different spacings for the spark plugs (gap). The majority of plugs come pre set with the proper gap, however its not a bad idea to check them anyways. Local parts house should be able to tell you the correct gap for any vehicle and give you the little guage.

well it ran fine for a long time until lately when it started backfiring and now when it's bogging out so bad, would it just be starting up like this with the spark plugs if it could possibly be them?
