Default Suspension or Clutch problem?

I'll try to describe my problem as best as possible. Whenever I am going over rough roads and accelerating, my car kicks back and forth noticeably. It feels like the accelerator or clutch is engaged then disengaged then engaged all within a couple seconds and it jerks you back and forth. However, this ONLY happens on rough roads (usually at lower speeds as I accerate up to the speed limit). I have been on smooth roads then I'll punch it, leave it in gear and coast, then punch it again and the clutch grabs just fine (stock tranny, manual, 41k miles).

Any idea what it can be? I'm not sure and it's very annoying to accerelate when the road isn't smooth. It seriously feels like: WOMP*nothing*WOMP*nothing* all the way from 0-40 until the road stops beign bumpy.

if you can get going 30 mph or so and shift into 5th and floor it and the rpms dont jump up the clutch is fine. sounds to me like the engine is losing power and then is coming back. i would say check all the electrical connections to your tps, maf, and other sensors to make sure none of the connectors are loose. other than that i would have to drive it to get a better idea.

where in wi are you from?

I have had this happen to me a couple times to me as well. On bumby roads my foot would bounce on the gas pedal and cause the car to act light a on off switch.

My question would have to be....How used to driving one of these Mustangs are you? I mean that with no disrespect. These cars are very touchy and once your foot bounces up in the lower gears you will get that reaction. When it starts doing that, does it continue doing it until you push in the clutch? I think you're having the same problem that blackstallion was describing. My guess is nothing is wrong with your car.

I thought that too (that my foot would come on and off). But I've been trying to keep my foot on the gas evenly as I go over rough road. I'm hoping it is this, I'll try it a few more times (already in gear and trying as best as possible to keep my foot on the gas evenly) after work.

outside thought. on the rough roads you're not experiencing wheel hop are you??
Next try to hold your foot all the way down on the accel. pedal and see if the same thing happens then you can rule out if its you.

Its a symptom of the solid rear going over uneven surfaces during acceleration, you are basically getting "axle wrap" simular to the cause of hop. Not much you can do about it other than just coast over known bumpy bits in the road or put a decent amount of money into upgrading the suspension in the back. Used to happen to me in my old 02 GT and friends' Mustangs going over man-hole covers and such. Never had the problem since I starting driving the Cobra with an IRS.
