Please help me!! Re: Engine compression
OK, i'll try to make it short, but explain it well. I have a 96 gt automatic that over the last year has gonr through a pi swap, comp cams stage 1, full exhaust (x-pipe no cats), 3.73 gears, full bolt-ons, rebuilt engine with 10 to 1 compression pistons. My point is that recently i ahd an issue with the car. I took it to the engine builder and he concluded that it was the pistons (the new motor has no more than 2000 miles). So he contacted the manufacturer to let them know that it was a defect with the pistons. The manufacturer told him it was his fault because the cars compression is too high and in order to help the car not destruct itself again, he needs to put at least two catalytic converters back in order to reduce the back pressure and to put a stall converter so it can help relieve the pistons. I'm not too mechanically inclined, but this all sounds like a bunch of you know what. I think he's lying of just doesnt know. I did see the pistons and 4 of them were cracked from the ring. I think he didn't install them right. It was under warranty so I am not paying anything, but I dont want this to happen again. I honestly think the problem is the fact that i have never tuned the car. No hand held or dyno tune at all. The car may be running lean which can lead to what happened. Could this be the problem or what can it be? PLease educate me. Thanks guys.
