Clutch Issue

Default Clutch Issue

Ok well my car is just acting weird. The adjuster for the clutch doesn't seem to be holding any adjustment. I can adjust it and its great but the next morning its crap and the clutch doesn't grab at all till the top of the pedal release. Also every-time I engage the clutch there is the metallic rattling noise, almost sounds like coins in a dryer. Im 100% sure its not coming from the engine. Im hoping that it doesn't need a new clutch, but I fell thats what its going to be. Ive only owned the car for the last 8,000 miles and this has been going on and getting worse for the last 1,000 or so; gas mileage seems to be getting worse along with it as well. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Start saving for a new clutch.

Mine was doing the exact same thing, and I just dropped a Spec stage 2 into it. It's like night and day difference. I probably got another 2k or so miles out of mine, but it was getting worse and worse.

mines had a mile of clutch pedal travel for 5000 miles and its just now starting to slip. I beat the "poo" outa it too so if you take it easy you should have plenty of time to save for a new clutch.

I probably should take my own advice, but sometimes i cant help myself. I got one good 1-2 per drive before it starts slipping.

I could be wrong, because i'm new to the Mustang platform, but my 2000 Eclipse had a similar problem with the "coin" noise and the clutch was having problems. I thought i was going to have to buy a new clutch, but it turned out it just needed a new slave cylinder for about $100.

'04 and older mustangs have cable clutches=no slave cylinders.

Every mustang clutch prior to 05 was cable.

Avoid the Spec stage 1. I'd get a RAM. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Stock clutch? Stock adjustment? If stock adjustment, pull up on the pedal with your left foot and you should hear a racheting sound.

Where is the friction point normally? I have a '00 GT that I purchased 1 1/2 years ago. The friction point has always been high (maybe 3/4 of the way off the floor). Pulling up on the pedal doesn't do anything. Must not have any more adjustment available. I haven't had any slipping, just a high friction point. Does this mean I'll need a new clutch soon?

have you tried adjusting it by pushing on the white plastic hook tab that moves when you move your clutch? ive done this and the clutch feels completely different afterwords, heres the write up; http://www.corral.net/tech/drivetrain/clutcha.htm


turn the car off and use a towel or something to push on the plastic tab and it will click , turn the car back on and put the clutch in and out a few times



i circled the tab you need to push, its kinda hard to get to but its above the brake/gas pedel area and moves when you move the clutch. try this before buying a new one
