Key issues.

Ok, I have had one, and only one working key for my mustang, I don't lose keys so it didn't bother me. Well now I have a problem, today that key broke, it got caught in a door and bent, while trying to bend it back it broke. I have one blank key, and one key that is cut right, but doesn't have a chip. What can I do? Is there any way to use the broken key + cut key to make the car think I have one good key, is there a way I can get the blank one cut and get it working with the car?

Tape the broken key with the chip on your steering column and use the key without the chip to start the car.

For remote starting, a hidden key is put under the dash so that the car knows the chip is present.

When I bought my car it had only one key. I had Ford make me two others. It isn't cheap.

bummer...
...I just lost my only set a couple weeks ago (I think someone inadvertently picked them up)

anywho...I called my friendly locksmith and he cut 2 keys for me...
...they engineer the key on the door lock...then program the chip.

I was charged $150 + $25 for the 2nd key...
...the Ford dealers around Orl Fl charge $200 and I would have had to tow my mustang to them...
...my locksmith makes house calls :p

PS....I gave my locksmith a $25 tip too

man 200 for a pats key? thats ridiculous how much do these dealerships charge per hour??

Most dealerships charge 1 hour labor which in itself is ridiculous. The only thing that takes time is the IDS has a 10 minute lockout on all PATS functions so you cant steal cars with it. They take 20 minutes max to program.

Most larger local locksmiths will have a programmer (Fluke Instruments makes one, there are others) that can program most cars with PATS and PATS-like systems. My car had only one key when I got it and the local shop charged me $45 to provide and cut the key, and program the PATS.

Check with a local locksmith before going to the dealer.

It takes a whole two seconds to program. I got two blanks then had a friend who is a tech from Ford program them for me.
