Default Battery Relocation

I just bought an aluminum battery relocation kit. Has anyone ever done this before? Where in the trunk did you mount the box? Do you have to drop the fuel tank to drill the holes that hold the box down? This install looks like it might take awhile but hopefully it's not that bad.

i used the plastic type. didn't take that long, you shouldn't have to drop the tank just be careful how far you drill, i believe you have to use at least 3/8 bolts for it to be legal for track use.

its about the same amount of work as installing a subwoofer amp wiring kit.Not much to it.

Personally i would drop the tank down a few inches and bolt the box in its location i dont like the self tapping screws.

Yes you have to drop the tank to install the battery for saftey of the tank and so you can put the nuts on the bottom of the studs.

since you have to use 3/8s bolts i used all thread, drilled a whole big enough for the nut on the bottom of the allthread to fit through, then notched the hole so i could slide the thread over to hold it in place. then just used a steel plate to hold the battery down which holds the box down at the same time. wish i had some pics but its kind of the same concept as the import hold downs with the long threaded rods and plate that goes on the top.

Okay thanks for the help. The box I have has 7 drilled holes (3 along the back length and 2 on each side). Came with self tapping bolts to mount it. I might just use regular nuts and bolts though. I guess I'll run the wire down the driver's side and get it under the plastic door trim pieces.

Sorry to bring back my old thread but I have another question. I was reading the vortech battery relocation manual and it says you need to route a breather tube out the car next to the gas filler tube. Do I need to do this? Why?

Batteries create a certain gas (can't remember the actual gas), and could build up in the box/trunk. The vent tube should route from the box to the outside of the car..

If you have a sealed battery, they do not leak this gas...

I have a Motorcraft battery. Do I need a vent tube for this?
