Default Are underdrive pullies worth it??

I am ready for my next bolt on and underdrive pullies come to mind. I have been told that they are not worth the risk of the constant draining of the battery. I want more power, but don't want to get stranded. Horsepower is no good if you can't get your car started.

THey are worth it. I just got mine on and I feel some nice gains. I have 2 400 watt amps hooked up to my battery and it's still running fine. I turned on the AC, lights, and blasted my music and the car was perfect at idle. So don't worry about that...the battery will charge.

I wouldn't worry about the battery drain unless you are running some serious stereo equipment or have other electrical drains on the system that are out of the norm. Have you added rear end gears? You won't get any more power but you will definitly feel it in performance. It brings the mustang to a new level from a launch standpoint. 3:73's or 4:10's. THat is a whole other can-o-worms though.

What is the difference between a good set of UD pullies and a bad set. I have a 30 mile commute on I40 at 80 mph. I am a little weary about changing my gears and losing fuel mileage.

there is a difference between god and bad pullies. some pullies are considered pulyback pullys, which is why most people recomend steeda or march (steeda is better of the 2) look up on piggyback pullies and see why u should get steeda.

I am extremely happy with my Steeda UDP's. I've had them for like 9 months or 10,000 miles. I've driven them in harsh 2 hour daily commutes, long trips, stop and go, dyno runs, etc and had no hint of probs relating to alternator, steering or H20 pump. I highly recommend them. It's amazing how much faster the engine revs. I hit redline so fast. I can't imagine how fast it will be when I get my 4.10's installed!

Steeda's are $199 at mustangtuning.com. I installed mine myself, but I had help from some guys at work. You need a 3 bolt puller to remove the crank pulley. Other than that, it's not that bad.

Ya, get the ones that are 'single piece' design, not the piggy back style. The piggyback ones tend to cause balance issues if not properly installed or if they wear out. Even if properly done you may still have problems.

Personally, I wouldn't do UD pulleys because of the extreme heat here in AZ during the summer. Between the slightly lower coolant flow and the slightly lower charging capacity, I would probably end up stranded on the side of the road in 115 degree weather...that would stink.
