Default bad 4.6l knock

got a 95 crown vic with the 4.6 modular. it sat around for almost a month after we bought a new car, i went out and started it and guess what, a bad knock came up. it sounds like its from the top of the engine, pulled off both valve covers, the cam looks ok. it does NOT miss at all and revs ok, havent driven it. the knock varies with engine rpms as well. when watching the valvetrain move it knocks as fast as the valvetrain does i thought well maybe a spun bearing? i started it for a few seconds with the passenger valve cover off and couldnt see anything. this things got me pissed because i was about to park the car somewhere to sell it. what could it be?

Sounds like something valve train to me too. I don't know how you could isolate it though.

I'd say drop the oilpan and check for metal. thats how I found my issue.

I might rather stay in denial for a while instead of dropping the oil pan. lol

well like i said the cam lobes look good on both sides, the heads seem to be getting plenty of oil as well. i cant really tell which side it sounds more like the passenger but its hard to say, its loud as well. the car doesnt idle rough or nething either. i dont know a whole lot about the modular but could the cam followers cause it or maybe a valve spring? im stumped just trying to get some thoughts. i could probably get a small video if it could help?

Your'e more likely to have a failed timing chain tensioner but i'd have to hear it for myself
