Default Used S/C questions

I've been trying to decide whether i'm ever going to S/C my stang before I drop thousands of dollars in bolt ons and i've decided to blow it. It will forever remain a street car I dont really care about building this thing to launch for 1/4th times. Just a bad-*** street stang. I never intend it to ever go above 450 HP.

Given this i'm dead set on a twin-screw. Centrifugal just isn't my thing i'm just flat obsessed with the twin-screw. Considering I have a 2V 2003 GT my options are limited from what I know.

And like most other S/C buyers i'm not looking to pay the shiny $4,000 Kenne Bell wants for the 6-14 PSI non intercooled 2.1L. Too rich for my blood but hopefully by the end of the summer i'll have saved enough for....something. Which is what i'm getting to, what are my options?

From what I know I could go the Tork Tech intake manifold direction and throw on whatever fits that but thats $1900 itself if i'm not wrong. By the time i'm done with that and the blower i'm up to near KB prices. I've seen alot of people say you can get superchargers used pretty cheap.

What are my options?
How much do used 1.7L and 2.1L KB's go for? And how easy are the 1.7Ls to find now that KB stopped making them? This is what I would ideally want.
Aside from having to buy a tork tech intake manifold for an eaton(roots, bleh) or whipple or something, is there any other twin-screw that will go on the 2V?
Where's the best place to look for used KBs? I see alot of people saying you can get them "cheaper" but I can't seem to find much on the net.

well all Ill say is that as far as used goes, you have a little less to worry about in most cases with a twin screw, in most cases they just might have been over spun and might not make as much power, but because they are self contained you dont have to worry about metal shavings from a prior blown motor getting into your motor.

and as far as getting them cheap, i have yet to see this. as most twin screws hold there value pretty well. average price for a used 2.1 is 3,000-4,500. depending on milage of course. i have not seen too many 1.7l out there for sale. and the ones i do see go for about 2,500+... granted they are still cheaper than new, dont expect to get one for a ridiculously low price. plan on spending atleast $3,000 for one.

I was set on buying a Kenne Bell. I called KB, ATI, Saleen and Vortech and asked them to send me information on their products. Since I always wanted the twin screw style blower and I had the cash to buy what ever blower I wanted, Pro Charger was the most convincing. All I can say is that the pro charger unit I bought lacked quality. Their 99-04 system could've used a little more styling like the vortech systems. I am in the prossess of swapping out the 2V and putting in a 4V with many extra go faster parts. I don't know if KB or Vortech offer this but you can send your current model procharger unit back to them for an upgrade. I think the most psi you can go on 93 octane before you have to have an intercooler is 8 psi. With an 8 psi intercooled setup and bolt-ons you will be over you 450 hp,( on the motor )

PS , I like to babble on about nothing when I'm wasted.

my vortech 03 GT was runnin 11-12 psi (10# pulley and powerpipe) w/o an intercooler and on 93 octan ran fine for almost 1.5 years before i sold it.

i seriously doubt you will be over 450rwhp on 8# and intercooled. more like 400ish.

It's easy to find used centris for good prices. It's not easy to find the same for a twin screw setup.

$2,500 to $3,500 is acceptable that's kind of what I was looking at spending for a used one. How practical is it to find these kits for that price range?

ehhh, not too many ppl sell them. only reason to sell is to upgrade. i will sell mine eventually but prob ask around 4,500 for it as it only has 1500 miles on it or so.been on the car for a couple months.. just want to go to the 2.6l once the built motor goes in the car.
