Default Brake Caliper upgrade

I've been looking around trying to decide what direction to go with on my brakes.

Should I swap out for cobra calipers & rotors? That is only a bracket change, correct? What year is best?

How much better are the aftermarket setups, and does anyone have any recommendations?

Well I bought cobra 13" calipers on ebay which to my surprise came fully loaded with factory pads and larger bracket to fit to GT. I also went with slotted/crossed drill rotors for the front and rear and love them to death - awesome upgrade in terms of braking performance and looks!

I highly recommend the 10th anniversary Cobra conversion kit. The difference between those brakes and the stock GT ones is HUGE. They look much better as you can get them red or gray powdercoated with COBRA on the side. The performance gain is substantial as well. The front rotors are 13", so those dual-piston calipers have a lot of surface area to bite down on. My car stops on a friggin dime now. Another plus is that they will fit inside any wheel that is 17" and up, so you don't have to worry if you have the stock wheels. The kit is a decent price too. The biggest thing for me with those brakes is that now I can use the full potential of my 3200 rpm PI Stallion torque converter. With the old GT brakes, I could only get the rpms up to around 2600, with the brakes held down all the way, before the rear wheels would start to turn. With the Cobra brakes, I can get to almost 4000 rpms before they start to turn, which allows me to launch the car much harder than before

I just did the Roush/Alcon 14" Front and 13" Rear brake kit from Stage 3 Motorsports and I love them! I highly recommend these as they have 4 piston calipers vs the Cobras 2 pots. I powdercoated the calipers black and then used an oil based paint to accent the lettering.
