Unhappy Overheating

So i picked up my car today..bought it off my brother, and as i was driving around it started to get hot. It's happened b4 and the thermostat was changed, which seemed to solve the problem. It only does it when driving in town (small town, lots of stop signs). It will get hot then go back down to normal, then back up and back down. Could it be the water pump gettin rdy to go?

Could be your water pump, or it could be the radiator fan not working. Turn on the A/C and see if the fan kicks on, if it does, then it's working.

Don't mean to bust in on your thread sidewayz2k but.....I have a 98 vert auto, and when it gets Africa HOT out here in the desert...my car goes from 1st - 3rd. It's would be like shifting from 1st - 4th on a 5 speed. The shop said its so the motor won't over heat. It's ok at night when the temp is down outside. Getting a alum. radiator today. I hope it works. Any other suggestions on the prob.? Thanks in advance.

Africa hot? Wow, you must live in Phoenix. Another cause of the overheating might be air in the system. Have a local garage purge your system. It helped on my '98 GT.

sounds like a stopped up radiator or a bad cooling fan

Make sure your fan is kicking on, if you cruise on the highway and it stays cool its probably your fan.

Got the new radiator in and the fan is working...still doing the same thing. You think I need to up-grade my stock fan? Thanks

I was having the same problem in my bronco. I bought a Cheap thermostat from Auto zone and I think I got a bad one. I bought a different higher quality one and now its working like new again.
