To reach the bolts at the very top, slowly lower the rear of the transmission until it won't go any further. Be prepared to catch transmission oil from the rear. You will easily see those top bolts. You will need atleast an 18 inch socket extension to reach them.

Just put a couple of extensions together and you should be good.

I can't see how you would get to them if there are any at the very top, but that would surprise me with Ford.
Yep, there are two bolts up there. Yes, they are a PITA to get at. You can lower the back of the transmission down, but you don't have to. I got em loose with a few extensions, a swivel, 15 uses of the word fu*k, 25 uses of sh*t and some skin off the tops of my knuckles.

Default 1996 To 2004 GT Mustang Engine Bolt Pattern

Your engine bolt pattern should look like this. The two green circles are your top bolts that you may have not taken out. The red circles are your dowel pins I was telling you about. Good luck. I hope this helps, Tommy.

If this is the same as the 1999 there are two bolts on top of the tranny that are hard to get to. To remove mine I put a block of wood on the front of engine and jacked it up slowly. I then took a socket , universal joint and alot of extentions. Takes some time to do it, but it will work.
