Default Common Fail Items?

O.K., so the intake manifold on Ford cars made around the same year as mine had a Class Action Law Suit filed for the intake manifolds. I found this out after mine got a leak and I had to replace it.

Now I want to be preemptive. and see what I can do to keep something else like this from happening.

What I want to know is if there is anything (other than normal maintenance, and the intake manifold) that I need to know about a 1997 Mustang GT Coupe as far as common fail items or common problems.

I don't know about the '97 but the seat belt not retracting seems to be a common problem among new edges.

I bought my car used so is there anyway of telling if the person before me had the intake swapped out under the recall?

Well the problem is that the ones that come stock are all plastic. More than likely, if they had it replaced already, then the front of the manifold would now be aluminum. If the part of the intake manifold that is just behind the alternator is plastic it either hasn't been replaced yet, or has been replaced with a part that is just as likely to crack as the original.

Yes call the dealer of your choice and give them your VIN they'll run it, and tell you if the car has been fixed or recalled.

Dealer probably wont be able to tell you anything. Ford has a 10 year window for specific VIN information. So anything under a 2000 will probably not come up under a VIN check

What exactly is the common seatbelt problem? my drivers side seatbelt has a stuck retractor or something and it's really difficult to get it to retract the seatbelt when I take it off...it's really annoying
