Default SCT X3 or something else

I want to start modding my 03 gt manual and was wondering if getting the sct x3 would be a good start? Is there a noticeable differnce with it on a stock car. I also plan on gears and exhaust but wanted to know about the tuner. I was planning on getting one from brenspeed.
Thanks

Ya that is a good tuner. If you ever plan on getting your car dyno tuned, I would call the place you would go and figure out which tuner they use.

SCT is a good tuner and is one of the most widely used. Ton's of online vendors offer custom mail-order tunes and most dyno tuners use that software. The thing is (to my understanding) it offers the end-user very limited parameters of adjustability. Basically meaning only a dyno tuner with the full software or one of the online mail-order vendors can make the big changes and tweaks to your tune.

Starting off with a tuner for your car is not a bad idea at all. You're gonna need one anyway once you eventually do the gears - to recalibrate the speedometer. You will notice a pretty decent gain with just a tune to your stock car. The problem is after you progressively add mods, you will probably have to keep paying to have your tune updated for your new mods. I also wouldn't pay the money for a full dyno tune until you have a decent amount of bolt on's.

If you want something you can use right now to give you a nice gain in stock form and also allow you to make changes and tweaks YOURSELF, look into getting a Sniper tuner. It's more of a "DIY" tuning software and it's quite fun. They also have a dedicated forum (www.snipertuningforum.com) to help you with your tuning.

Not sure if there are any Sniper dyno tuners in PA but if you really get into it, you can do a full tune yourself on the street using a wideband and Snipers full package.

I'll look into that. And you make a good point about needing a retune after every mod. I think brenspeed gives you free upgrades if you buy the part from them. So I may look into that.
I just heard good things about brenspeed and that they do 3 good quality tunes for the sct when you buy it

you can buy one from AM and you get free tunes sent when ever you want, not limited to getting only 3 tunes. Also +1 to sniper tuning, i havn't used it myself but from what I hear on here and from the shop I use its a great tuner.

I would read the fine print on the AM "free tunes for life" thing again. The last time I read it, it said that it's free tunes for life only if you buy the mods from their site.

Not trying to thread jack, but what about the Diablo Predator tuner? Will I have to keep updating my tune everytime I add new mods to the car? Updated tunes available? What mods require an updated tune, major bolt ons or will exhaust and pulleys "pass"?
