Question for buying a used mustang
I'm 16 and looking to buy a used mustang gt. I saw one on Craigslist but something about it had me questioning. It was a 1998 and look spotless from the interior/exterior to the engine bay also it had 149k miles and was a 5 speed. Being only 16 while I do know a lot about cars I haven't been driving long so don't know how "used" equipment acts. I was wondering does a transmission tend to have a lot of wear around this high of mileage? The car also comes with 3.73 gears and Aftermarket Underdrive Pulleys. I heard somewhere that underdrive pulleys can seriously damage your engine but I could be completely wrong. If anyone could tell me if these parts (gears, pulleys, tranny) can hurt the car cause my budget right now can't afford expensive fixes! Thanks!

Milage is not bad at all, 3.73 gears installed already is a ++ .
Under drive pulleys do not damage your engine Ive been using them for years.
My trans is a stick t5 on my 94, Im guessing that trans is a t-45 as that's what they used in the 96-98 gt 5 speeds .
Get a link to the add so we can take a look at it ,,
Op where you located in ohio.

I am selling my 1998 Ford Mustang Gt that I have owned for the last 10 years. It has 159k miles on it and is a 5 speed manual transmission. It has been great and still runs strong. Here is a list of mods done to the car:
3.73 gears
Pro 5.0 shifter
Off-road H Pipes
Mac mufflers
Underdrive pulleys
Racing seats
I am wanting to get $3000 for it.

my honest opinion, I wouldn't run them. Then again I tore apart my buddies 00 gt 4.6 and it had 160,000 with piggy back pulleys.

From the problems I have read and seen, the machining and material is the big problem. Ive seen some people run these for years without a hiccup and then another have problems right off the bat. If the machine work and material is quality, then the op should be fine. If not, crank balancing could be off and cause crank damage and/or bearing failure. Improper fitment on the crank can damage the end of the crank, premature wear. The biggest problem is someone installing them improperly. But that could happen with a standard balancer and a bone head mechanic.

That is a sweet looking ride except for the red ac vents. Easy enough to fix that if you don't like them. Does the right tailpipe seem to be sticking out further than the left. If it runs and drives good and has a clean car fax, I'd jump on it.
