Default Stock Axle Strength

How much can our stock axles handle before breaking?

ive started seeing them break around 400 at the wheels...but it all depends on the car...previous abuse, tire composition, auto cars will hold up longer than stick cars....sometimes with enough miles and enough abuse, you can break the axles with 250rwhp...theres no real set number like on the rods...if there was, i would say around 400-450...ive seen them break on a dyno with that much hp, but ive also seen them hold up for awhile just fine...its kind of a toss up

yea theres really no set number. i know people have done it with drag radials and bolt ons but then again iv been through 2 sets of nitto drag radials, mickey thompson et streets and a few 5 k launches with mickey thompson et drags or w.e they r...the ones like slicks. mine r holdin up pretty good so far...still building the rear tho

There are plenty of stories out there of stock cars with slicks breaking axles. If the car dead hooks, the power's there to potentially snap or twist an axle.

OKay guess i better start looking into 31 splines than. Im planning on running slicks on some v6 pony rims as suggested in another thread of mine. Thanks for the responses guys.

Looking at your mods I'd definitely do it. I did it when I had the gears put in. It's a worthwhile investment, especially if you plan on making more power down the road.

yeah im definatly gonna do it than. Cause im looking into either picking up a used s/c kit or spraying it by the end of this summer. One question though. Im not really too familar with drivetrain stuff.... My gears are in now. Do they have to be reinstalled with axles and lsd? i dont know the specifics how everything works and pieces together sorry if thats a dumb question...
