Default Mark VIII vs Cobra 4v

Hello,

I'm looking to buy a 2001 Mustang Cobra engine but it has Intech valve covers. I called the guy and he insists its out of his 2001 Cobra.

My question is what signs should I be looking for visibly? I read somewhere the mark 8 engine is a 6 bolt crank where as the cobra is a 8 bolt; is this true?

Thanks for the help.

i wouldnt buy it if it has the intech covers that seems odd and all 4v 4.6s are 6 bolt main and the 03/04 cobras are 4 bolt main. just find the vin number and the engine and run the number

I assume he is talking about the Flywheel bolts not the main bolts.
What color are the cam covers? if they are black it is a good chance it has a Mark 8 motor in it. Do you have any pic of the engine bay. Some of us can look at it and make a good judgment on what it appears to be

a mark engine wouldnt of had those on the valve covers stock, as they had plastic covering everything, similar to new mustangs.

not to mention the swap to the newer intake- most mark guys use a 96-98 intake.

you can't that was just usual bad info this site is great for.
That is defiantly a 01 type intake and even though 97/98 Mark 8 have COP i believe they are still B heads(verify don't take my word for it). that intake will not bolt onto the B heads. So that tells me that the Heads are the C heads so with that info I believe it can be an 01 4V. Maybe ask him why he has Mark 8 covers on the engine.
The only difference between Cobra and MK8 covers is the color. Cobra = Silver MK = Black

I asked and he didnt have a very good reason. I called him today and asked for him to take the oil pan off so i can see the crank. The Cobra crank has 2 more weights in the middle where as the Lincoln doesnt.

....
Did he maybe mean the Engine ID? Do Ford Modulars have those? If I remember correctly, Chevys did anyway.

A Mark VIII will have a 6 bolt flywheel, the cobra will have an 8. Like mentioned above, the 99+ Cobra intake won't fit on B heads. He likely just swapped the valve covers.
