Default pre-99 block differences

Besides the heads/intake and so forth, is there any difference in the block/crank/pistons/rods in the pre-99 engines from the 1999 and up engines? I dont want to bother with the PI head/intake swap if the newer engines have a better crank or if the newer blocks are stronger.

All the same from what i heard. a 96-04 gt bottom end will hold up to around 400hp. Ive never heard that a 04 will hold more or less than a 96.

Wait.. it only holds up to 400 hp to the wheels or 400 to the flywheel... that makes me nervous.. this supercharger upgrade I'm getting is going to put my 2k3 GT @ around 452-470 at the flywheel after the tune... not to mention im getting a new plenum, headers... in reality I'll probably be pushing around 500 to the flywheel running 8psi of boost....

Unless you have EVERY bolt on possible then you wont make that much on a streetable tune. 400-430 is the most you will see out of a blower without internal upgrades.

420rwhp max or so.

500hp crank is doable... but no way you'll make that at 8psi.

Don't bother trying to make that much power without forged internals. It's like trying to become a body builder with chicken legs. You will need something strudy to support your power. And 99+ engines have different pistons because PI heads have smaller combustion chambers (47mm?) whereas NPI heads have a 51mm combustion chamber. So the PI cars have a bigger dished piston to lower the compression ratio.
