hey guys, i was wondering if anyone knew what this thing was under my dash. it has wires that run up behind the dash too.

I think I have one of those too. it's an engine cutoff switch that uses a chip as the key. If you paid the extra money when you bought it, they put a chip that is removable in there. If you didn't pay the money, the chip is permanent (i.e. no plastic handle to remove the chip with).

 

i don't think it is a factory install because if you look where the screw is the dash panel cracked where someone did a sucky install. also it is a 97 gt vert, guess i should have said what it was earlier.

 

it looks like a plug for one of thoes aftermarket plug n play tuners.

 

mine was a dealer install, not factory. I think the dealers use those for their cars so they don't get jacked and then give you the option to buy it.

 

is it on the drivers or passenger side? if it's on the passenger side then it is not what I have. Mine is directly under the steering wheel. Also, it looks like something is already in the port.

i thought it was a tuner port at first but then i remembered that they use the diognostic port.

it just pisses me off that it cracked my dash whatever it is.

 

does it look like a little chip is already inside of the port? if so, it's probably what I thought it was.
