Things to look for in high mileage 4.6

Is it at a dealership, or private sale? How long has it been there?
A private sale, my '03 GT, with 30k miles, started out in the classifieds at $16,900 (the KBB/NADA/Edmunds retail $$)--10 weeks later on December 7, 2006 (yup, Pearl Harbor Day) I bought it for $12k cash.
"Asking" and "getting" are two distinctly different things...

True...The GT ive been looking at has been listed for probably around 2 weeks, its being sold by a private party. I hate dealerships.
But im beginning to think that selling my sixer for 4300$ wont happen anytime soon. Its got 125k mi & hail damage on the roof, and ive talked to a few perspective buyers but no luck yet.
Gah i want a GT badly. I also bought my stang in the winter and it seems alot easier to buy one then.

Big hail scares the crap out of me, when my car is parked out of doors--very expensive damage in just a few minutes.
My '90 Miata (in 2003) got hit in Daytona Beach--the steel and the rag-top did OK, but the OEM aluminum bonnet was toasted. I went through the wringer with the insurance company because they wanted to use an after market steel hood--it took over two months and several letters from an attorney (a friend of mine) to get a proper replacement.
The good news is that here in the Saint Augustine area I have not seen hail in 20 years ("knock-on-wood" of course...

Yeah i'd say 5K for that car would be reasonable... I got my 96 gt for $4700 and 122K on it and that was 3 years ago. It was also from a friend of my dad's who is an engineer and owned 4 other mustangs at the time. He kept the car in really well maintained, he was one of those purist that would only use ford dealership parts.
