Default changing 5th and 6th gearing in a t56?

How would you go about doing this? Is there a write up somewhere? I would like to have the gearing in 5th and 6th or maybe just 6th that come in the viper. Is this even doable? I couldnt find the info im looking for but im sure someone here knows.

Of course it is, it requires very nearly complete disassembly (and reassembly) of the transmission--so if you have to pay someone to do it for you it won't be cheap.

You might want to look into buying a T-56 with the ratios you want and then selling the transmission you have; it might be less expensive in the long run.

thanks for the responses. I talked to a guy i know today that builds transmissions and he said he will do it for $150 + parts. I'm assuming thats a pretty good deal.

150$ plus parts? wth? sounds too good to be true. do you know this guy? is he gunna drop the trans too? or is it already out? from some of the very small tidbits of video's showing transmission dis-assembly is not just a quick swap.

yeah he is my tuner but also knows his way around transmissions pretty well. yeah it will be out of the car. it will just be something on the side.

i dunno 150$ sounds really too good to be true, especially if he is going to drop the trans itself out of the car.

and not to sound like an *** but, how do you plan on ensuring he actually swaps the gear and doesnt just say he did? i would record a speed/rpm with it first while your out drivin or get a rpm calculator or somethin to compare to...

$150 isn't bad to just swap the gears if the tranny is already out. I wouldn't call it too good to be true at all. Disassembling a manual isn't really that bad of a job compared to an auto. It's actually quite simple, and you can test the thing on the bench before you even put it back in the car if you want to make sure you didn't **** anything up.

hmmm... wish i had some good guys around here that would do cheap work like that. i'd prolly get a TKO600 then since i can drop the trans myself, and have them change the gearing to my liking.
