I am running 3.73's and love them. Winds up quick and made a huge difference. I will see how much better they are when I get my SC on, but for right now they are the best mod I have done. You might want to think about getting a tuner for it also.

Everyone one here swears by the gears they have. It will mostly be 3.73 or 4.10. I have 3.73 and love them. Never driven a mustang with 4.10 so I can't comment, but I love my 3.73's. They are good for me, I think on the highway 4.10 would be a little to many rpm's for me to handle my exhaust. It drives me crazy as is.

im a newbie here - how difficult is it to install these gears yourself? or should this be left to an experienced mechanic?

If you have the right tools it should not be too hard. I had a shop do it for me and only cost $200. Piece of mind goes a long way.

I think the FRPP 3.73's are the best gears because they perfect for street/strip driving.
Also I'm still getting good fuel economy with the FRPP 3.73's on the highway.

In my opinion, don't even think about it. Take it to a well regarded shop and let them do it. It's an art, you can't just slap 'em in there. I usually try to do everything myself, but know my limits, heh heh.

I am currently running 4:10s and i previously ran 3:90's on the same car. For a n/a bolt on car i would personally go with 4:10s, but that is also just preference. Now that the procharger has gone on i am saying ffffffff 4:10s and going back to 3:73s or maybe even 3:53s, all depends on what wheel/tire setup i go with on which i decide.

I run with 28 tall slicks so i the 4.10s are fine. And as i said before i DD my car and commute around and hour and a half round trip and i get around 20 mpg on average. Everyone saying they dont get traction im assuming you mean on the street. Which i would agree with. But i dont race on the street so they work great for me.

If you have traction issues with 4.10's then you need to learn how to build a car correctly. I had 700rwhp/573rwtq and never had a single problem with traction and I had 4.10's. I could launch hard on the street with just drag radials and never spin the tires. If you have problems with just a few bolt ons then either upgrade the suspension or sell the car cause you obviously don't need anymore power.

As for max MPH in 4th it all depends on your power. Most say 110-115mph is as high as you can go with 4.10's in 4th but I hit 127mph in 4th more then a few times. But on a lower powered car you will need a 28in tire to be able to finish the 1/4 at the top of 4th.
