Default What is the best street tire for grip in a 315/35/17?

I currently have the Sumitomo HTR Z tires, and they're holding up very well with just about 20,000 miles on them, it's time to replace them. I'm looking to be able to get off the line as fast as possible, and the HTR's aren't meant for that. I heard the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's are a good option, however if there's something just as good for less then 350 a tire, that would be even better.
Would a drag tire be good? I don't care about wear, I drive this car about 1,000 miles a year. Any good advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You don't have to warm them up to make them grip do you? Goina' be a little noticeable if I'm at a red light doing a brake stand. lol

You don't "have" to warm them up to grip, but all the drag radials are gonne be better warmed up.

If you're looking for a good compromise of decent lasting tread, and a good sticky street tire, then you might want to consider some Nitto 555R's. Even though it's technically called a drag radial, it's really more between a street tire and a hardcore dr' like MT, BFG, etc.

They won't be as sticky as a hardcore dr, but will last much longer, and will be a lot more sticky than a normal street tire.

The Nitto 555R's are less than 200 from Discount.

I also had a set of Sumitomos. Theyre great if you don't want to get traction.

I'm actually buying a set of the 555's here shortly. I chose not to get the DR's for the simple fact that my car int a drag racing car. I've heard great things about 555's in regards to level of performance and longevity of the tire. There are more aggressive tires out there, but for normal daily spirited driving I have heard there (arguably) is no better tire for the price.

I considered buying the NT05's but they are a higher grip tire which means they won't last as many miles.

I suppose if you're simply looking for traction of the line some DR's will be your best bet. Like I said above, the 555R's are pretty inexpensive.

Would you say that a DR tire would be more grippy then a 555 without warming them up? I just wanna make sure that the DR would grip better then say a 555 even without warming them up. It's probably a dumb question.

Yes any DR (even the 555R's) will grip better than a street tire in a straight line, even without warming them up. The only time they won't is when it gets very cold out.
