I just bought a new(to me) 2001 bullitt GT and have noticed that at lower RPM the power steering seems to make a knocking. Doesn't do this when driving around town, but once I get where I'm going and have to park it honestly sounds like there are pipes banging around in the engine bay. I did research and see that there is alot of people saying they have a steering whine but that is not what i have. Also I do not feel a loss of assist for the power steering when i hear this. Power steering is what I think it might be, but figured I would ask. Thank you ahead of time for any input.

 

Are you sure it's the power steering? I'd check my tie rod ends, ball joints, struts, springs, sway bar looking for anything that might be loose. You didn't say, but I'm assuming it's making the noise when you are really cranking the wheel? And I'm sure you've already checked your fluid level? My bullitt developed a similar sound, not while steering but anytime I hit even the slightest bump. Drove me crazy till I finally tracked it down to a worn sway bar bushing.

BTW, what's the color and # of your bullitt?

 

I willl look into all that, I havent been under the car yet...waiting for a spot in a garage so I dont have to do it on the hill in my appartment complex. thank you for the input

also its a true blue, and im having trouble locating the authentication plack that tells me what number it is, but it does have the "holographic" Bullitt sticker on the driver strutt mount...only looked for about 5 min in the engine bay.
