Alarm Problems!!!!!
ok so when i lock my car with the key remote or the in car button after around 30 seconds my alarm goes off. i can unlock the car with the remote and the in car button and it doesnt go off. i dont know what to do i have to manually push the little things beside the windows to lock the car everytime (dont know what they are called) but then the alarm doesnt go off.
i dont know if it matters my car is a 1998 mustang gt. how do i fix it.

My mom's 02 Mercury Mountaineer AWD and my brother's 99 Ford Mustang GT both have this exact same problem. I finally traced the problem (on both vehicles) to the wires cracking that run from the door into the body of the car (covered up by a rubber hose). This actually fixed several problems when I soldered the wires back together. On the Mountaineer, the alarm would randomly go off because the wires were barely touching. In addition to that, the driver's door lock would not lock when you pressed the power lock switch, you had to lock it and unlock it manually. On the Mustang, it fixed the same issue with the factory alarm, the dome light now turns on and off properly when the door is opened and closed, and the power windows work again. Simply peel the rubber hose back and I guarantee that you'll find cracked wires on either the driver's or passenger's side, or both. Let me know if you have any other questions. Best of luck!

There was no "factory" alarm on any 4.6L mustang, however there was a Ford branded, dealer installed, alarm system made by Code Alarm, which was later sucked up by AudioVox. I believe they still offer some support for the Ford branded systems.
They were not extra high-quality, but were not horrible either--AFAIK they were only offered for a couple of years and then dropped when SecuriLock (PATS) finally got certified by the insurance underwriters.
Some dealers also had arrangements with local alarm companies, and installed other systems into new cars before delivery.
