Steering makes "creaking" noise
It only does this when i turn the wheel to the right. If i turn it maybe 6 inches to the right, it makes the creaking noise twice... If i turn it to a full lock (as i am turning), it creaks the whole way... It doesnt happen when i turn left though...
The creaking noise only occurs as i am turning the steering wheel... If i make a turn and keep the steering wheel in position, there is no noise until i have to turn the wheel again...
Is this a common thing?? I think this is the thing that cliffyk did to his car to fix right? It was a free mod worth 20min of time or something?? It's embarrassing to drive my car in a parking lot.

Thanks cliffy! You the man!!!
So let me get this straight.
I pretty much remove everything in there, and a pry the tube bracket out (without damaging it). Then i cut the tube bracket, and reinstall?
This sounds easy enough... Is there any place that this procedure can go bad and i am stuck in a worst case scenario?
Can i just eye the cut? What if i take off too much? What if i don't take off enough?
.100 is a very nominal cut to make... going to be tough to shed off that little with basic tools, no?

try turning the tire with your arms and listen for the sound. you could also hold the tire while a buddy turns the steering wheel while you listen for the sound.
to be honest though, if it's only making noise when turning one direction, it might not be the tie rod. i would check them anyway though.

Hmmm.. well when i put on my 13" brakes up front, i moved the spindles and i didnt hear a noise... But i didnt move them that far at all... So that's not a very good test lol
I will try again and really listen next time i jack the car up... Or i can just have somebody get under the car when i turn the wheel... The creaking is so loud haha.
I wonder if anyone else is having this problem?
Thanks for the pic... I am a visual learner

I had the same problem for several months, before the crackling noise was constant. I turned out the be a wheel hub. Lift the front end into the air, grab a tire at the top and bottom and try to move it back and forth. If it moves, more than likely, that's your problem. Very easy to change.

There's not much that could go wrong, you have to take off 1/4" or more to start getting into trouble...
