Question Rim Width Question

Hey guys this is my first post to the forums. I recently bought a 04 GT with 54,000 Miles! I thought that was very low for the price. Well with the hint of spring we have been having here I started to look at some rims. So my question is if I get 10.5 inch width rims on the rear and 9 inch width on the front are there any complications that I might run into either now or down the line? I dont know if the height of the rims matters in my question but they would be 17 inch rims. You can tell me if this is a good idea or would just look plain stupid! I would only drop it about an inch in the future. Thanks for any input.

You would be fine with that setup you are looking at. The only issue you might have is in the front when you turn from lock to lock you might get a little rubbing but nothing to worry about.

I see you are from WI, what part of WI are you from?

That is a fairly common setup. As long as you have the right size tires on there, it won't look stupid or anything like that. One 'issue' with staggered sizes is tire rotation, or lack thereof.

That is Jazzer's sticky about tires/wheels... he has another one about suspension that is a good read too (esp with you talking about dropping it in the future)

You will be fine with that set-up. I run 17x9 in front with 275-40-17 and 17x10.5 in the rear with 315-35-17. It looks a lot more muscular than the stock 17x8's. There will be a little decrease in acceleration due to the additional rotating mass of the heavier wheels/tires. You won't really notice it on the street, but it is measurable at the track in trap speeds.

There are a limited number of tire options in 315-35-17, but I have had no complaints about the Nitto555's I run on all 4 corners.

You will love the visual transformation by adding these new wheels!!!
