Default tire size question

right now i have 245/45/17 tires all around on my mustang gt.

The front two are getting pretty dull so i need to buy some new ones.

a guy nearby is selling some 215/55/17 tires pretty cheap with good tread left.

I know they would fit and the difference wouldnt be much, but how would they look/perform?

would they be better in the front or back? (this is for summer only)

also is it 45/55 that makes them skinnier and 215/245 the height?

thanks for the help!

The fist number is the width.

A 215 is going to be A LOT narrower than a 245. I would not recommend running them.

Not only is it unsafe to run a tire size that does not match wheel size, it just looks stupid to go that narrow.

stock rim is too wide for that tire unless you have a narrow wheel than the 17x8

215 is fine for the front. thats what I have, and its on a stock wheels that 7.5 inches wide.

215mm = 8.4 inches

ive even had 205s on the car all the way around. to skinny for looks but alright for grip if youre driving responsibly. Id prefer 235s

what stock wheel do you have, ive ran the stock star fish, bullit wheels, ect. all 17x8 stock using 245. the 05+ came with a 17x8 but had a 235 tire.

rim with on a tire is also not the same as the tire section width, those are 2 separate measurements. for a 215 width tire safe wheel widths are 6-7.5" stock 02 gt stangs with a 17 wheel had an 8in width.
