Default need gear help.

i have a 96 gt with a 5spd and i am getting new gears put in by a shop and he said that the bearings in the rear end are pitting. he said the installation for the gears is $175 and then he told me that i would have to pay installation for the new bearings and another $130 for the bearings. should i go ahead and replace the bearings now or leave the stock ones? is it necessary for me to do this or is he trying to get more money from me? he said i can go out and look at them. what should i look for? i need help asap i am going to look at them in a hour. thanks

Yes, you need to replace the master bearing kit if you have over 60000 miles. Dont leave the stock ones. Youll be back getting the bearing kit put in put in anyway.

So what. Put the bearing kit in anyway. Its 9 years old. Just do it, its not that much more. Dont take a chance. Also get the FRPP gears they line up better than other brands and you dont need to do as much shimming.

No, im sure that you wont see much other than normal wear. Just take my advice and get the bearing kit. Im sure anyone else that knows anything about gear swaps will tell you pretty much the same thing. Good luck with the new gears. Your speedo will be off incase you didnt know and will need to be corrected.

Agreed. I re-used my existing bearings but I had less than 20,000 miles on a 1 1/2 year old car. In your case replace the bearings.

What gear ratio did you get? 450 doesnt sound bad for the job.
