Default Car dies.

i have a 96 gt 5 spd and i just got 4.10 gears put in yesterday and have not yet gotten a speedo gear to recailbrate the speedometer so i unplugged the speedometer. my check engine light came on today so i went to a auto store and the code was for that unplugged speed sensor. anyway, today i was turning so i pushed the clutch in and put it in nuetral. i came around the corner and then my car dies. later that day i was going down a hill and pushed the clutch and was just coasting and then again my car died. what is going on? is it something with me disconnecting the speed sensor?

I have 3.73s and havent gotten a speedo recalibration gear yet so I unplugged the sensor off the transmission and my car still runs fine, just the check engine light is on for the speedo being unplugged. I would say it has nothing to do with the speedo being unplugged.

How do you like the 4.10`s? I think if you clean your throttlebody and intake air control valve, you will be ok but not 100% sure on that. Can be something else. At least do the cleaning and see what happens.

ok thanks. could this also be caused by a disconnected vacuum line? that is what the auto parts guy said. i think i might just take it back to the shop that did the gears because it never has done that before.

Do you see anything thats disconnected? If so, reconnect it. Dont bring it back to that guy. Also get a haynes repair manual for your car, that will be very helpfull.

well i cleaned the throttle body and got a new air filter and it is still shutting down. i have to take my car back to the guy who did my gears any way because he didnt have the right shims. so he told me it will work with the shims he put in but he is going to get the right ones. so i might tell him that my car keeps dying and it didnt do it before it went into his shop. is there anything else that it could be? fuel filter?

It never hurts to change the fuel filter. If you do, make sure you releive the gas pressure or youll have gas spraying all over. And you will need a special tool to remove the fuel line which you can get at any auto parts store. Of course it can be a number of things. The idle speed can be incorrect, clogged fuel filter, water in system. Vacuum leak, bad plugs, wires distributor cap, rotor, Etc. Good luck finding the problem.
