Werid DOHC engine prob
Well, some of the guys on the lincoln board wonder what this could be too, and I figured maybe the cobra mustang guys could help me out. Alright car is a 94 lincoln mark viii with the 4.6 dohc, prob first started when it in a cold moring sprayed all of the oil out threw the oil filter on start up. So I got it towed the dealership, they said simply the filter was too loose, so the oil sprayed out Im like ok, so they charged me for an oil change and cleaned it all up. Car drove great for almost 1500 miles when it did it agian, this time I decided before I put it away for storage I would take her fora quick drive around the block, gotout of my drive way lost all oil pressure, quick pulled into my drive way..and the oil light came on shut the car off because it lost oil pressue. So it was dark I checked the oil, nothing on the dip stick, hmm okIll take alook at it in the morning. So I get out there oil on the ground etc all over the driveway/road, and I look a the filter, completley riped In half. So I was well Ill do another oil change on it and take it in, so put a new filter on, filled back up with oil (10w30) mobil 1, went to start nothing just turns over. What could be wrong here why is the car creating so much oil pressure on cold start ups to blow the oil filter? And now it won't start at all, I did take the plugs out clyinders 6-7's plugs were completley covered in oil, The rest where just black, but i turned it over with no plugs in and tried to attempt to get the oil out of them clyinders. Put all back togeather didn't start just kinda stumbles..I did get it to kinda run for a little bit almost like it was running on only a few clyinders. But what do you guys think? pressure relief valve in the oil pump? etc? Thanks for your help sorry its long!

Wow, interesting...is this just happening on oneyour DOHC motor or many of them?

I know a lot of people experience a rather loud knock because of using the wrong oil filters on DOHC motors, and I've heard of people blowing off oil filters this same way...but I'm hoping you have tried other brands by now?? I would just go ahead and replace the entire oil pump assembly...why bother troubleshooting bits and pieces of it?

I have used 3 diffrent filters, the motorcraft, and fram, and k&n, yes there is a nock on most dohc motors, its just a simple cam tenstions rattle witch wont hurt anything..no this isnt happening on many other marks just mine it seems..just hopeing come here to get some more advice! thanks!
Are you absolutly surethat you are using the correct oil filter? Some ford use a check ball insome filters so the oil flows one way only. The car never should have been able to produce that kind of pressure, so yes you will need a new pump/regulator. Also what did your guage say. Plug in a manual guage to make sure it is right. I think someone did some bad engine work or the pump swallowed something........
The plugs where covered in oil when you pulled them out? You should have blown the dipsitck out if you are creating a enough pressure to blow out the filter. This is really odd? Does the oil pressure gage spike when the car is running?
Do you know how many times I have seen the dipstick get blown out of a motor because of ton of blow by and/or a hole in a piston? Just trying to help fiqure out his problem.

He stated that the 6 and 7 plugs where coated with oil suggesting blow by.

as long as his pcv valve is working properly then the dipstick wont blow out....i see where your coming from.....but the blow by situation shouldn't have anything to do with the oil filter blowing off...that would suggest a stuck press. relief valve on the pump...... these 2 situations should not be related...weird..
