K & N makes a high performance oil filter that I use with excellent results.

it's not so much the oil but the filter
this is what I do
1. use magnetic drain plugs
2. a magnet on my oil filter
3. syth. oil
4. hastings filter or amsoil
5. I pour a 1/2 qt in my engine to flush the old oil out the pan after it quits draining.
6. I use teflon tape on my drain plugs for a leak free job

If your car has never had synthetic before, don't switch to synthetic, you will burn some off in between oil changes. Like my Mustang, I bought it with 46k miles, leaked a little oil, I had to put a quart in between oil changes. I started using Quaker State High Mileage oil (red bottle) and I don't lose a drop of oil anymore. If an engine goes from using regular oil its whole life to using synethetic, the cleaning agents in the synthetic clean out all the little deposits in the seals that help keep oil in the engine, so it starts to leak.

Unless it's brand new or has always had synethetic in it, stick with regular oil. Just my $.02 from experience.

Synthetics dont cause leaking or problems..............pre existing problems do. If a car is well maintained, you wont have leaks, etc.

False.

Don't be surprised if you start using Synthetic and start noticing you're losing oil in between changes. TRUST ME ON THIS. I've used both in many cars and cars with higher miles or that have never used synthetic before will probably lose oil. The cleaning detergents in synthetic oils are at a high concentration and clean your engine MUCH MORE than with regular oil, but this cleans out all the microscopic deposits left by dino oil that actually keep your engine from losing any. You're just going to have to trust me, I've owned 9 cars now all that had atleast 45k miles and when I was using synthetic, I would lose some and would always have to add some, if I went to a high mileage oil, I didn't lose A DROP. I take very good care of my cars and maintain the engines very well, I've replaced main seals, all gaskets, etc trying to find an oil leak while using synthetic, but I can't replace the cylinder walls or valve guides where the oil is burnt off on higher mileage engines that high mileage dino oil will not allow in most cases.
