Extended warm up time for engine
2004 GT Vert takes about 6 or more miles on the highway before the engine temperature reaches the normal running gauge reading of just to the left of mid scale on the temp. gauge. I have replaced the thermostat and its O-ring, and also replaced the temperature sending unit. Coolant has been changed and is up to normal level. Car is located in Florida where the temps. are not that cool this time of year, or anytime really. Car runs fine, no problems noted, but this amount of warm up time seem excessive, compared to my 97 F150 and Mercury Milan. Is this slow warm up normal for these cars? Anything else that I can check ?
Thanks, Larry

The temperature gauge in these cars are equal to an old time "idiot light" i wouldn't determine it's not up to operating temp by the gauge, if you have a temperature gun check the temp at the thermostat when you start it again in two or three minutes

My 99 takes a long time for the needle to get to normal compared to most other cars I've driven. About 5 minutes, and in the winter time (years ago I took it out a few times) below 40 degrees outside it would take 10+ minutes.

Thanks for help. Hooked up my Actron Autoscanner to monitor engine temperature through the OBD II port. After approx. 1.3 miles the engine temperature was showing 160 degrees. Took a while to get up to 185 degrees, which is where it seems to run at, when fully warmed up. If the engine is going closed loop before 160 degrees then I am probably ok. Just takes most of the time to get from 160 to 185. Car A/C not running.
