Default 2003 GT transmission prob

Hey,Imnew to this forum. I just bought my first Mustang. A 2003 GT convertible w/5000 Miles. I've noticed when driving it, even babying it, it grinds in 2nd gear and sometimes in 3rd. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't diagnose it, but finally on a test drive with the tech., we got it to grind in 4th. He thought it could be the trans fluid?!?! I wasn't convinced, but it is going in on thursday the 15th to have the fluid changed. My real question was, has anyone on here had any problems similar to this? It blows my mind that a car with 5000 miles on it can have transmission problems. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,</P>

The grinding is caused because the synchro rings aren't engaging right or are worn, but that shouldn't be the case after only 5,000 miles. Possibly it could be the fluid if it isn't full enough I guess. Not sure though. I wouldn't think low fluid would cause that though. </P>

P.S. AAMCO is really good with transmissions. At least the guys in my area are. Maybe check them out. They should be able to tell you what's wrong.</P><edited><editID>USAMuscle</editID><editDate>37997.0811689815</editDate></edited>

He's dealing with a dealership so he has to be VERY careful, if the dealership found that AAMCO opened up his transmission to figure out what's wrong and sent him off to the dealership with the information they would tell him to shove it...

Just keep takin it back. I would demand that they put a new tranny in. If you break their ***** enough they will do it. Just make a seen in the showroom. They'll do it.<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

Problem with that is the dealership technicians are total boneheads. They royally f**ked up my Mustang more than once when I had to take it in for warranty work. They did work on my brakes and forgot to put the caliper bolt back in the front caliper, so it came loose when I was driving down the highway. That's the kind of mistake nobody should make.</P>

A transmission shop can tell you if it needs to be rebuilt without having to open it up. Any experienced transmission specialist will know what the problem is. AAMCO may not be the best in your area DW, but here the guys are wizards. I had a chance to talk with most of them when I was having work done to mine, including the customer service manager, and they are really good. Plus they offer a lifetime warranty, so the transmission is covered forever.</P><edited><editID>USAMuscle</editID><editDate>37997.6448263889</editDate></edited>
