no kidding. the only reason why anyone would need 3.73s is if they were getting a twin screw or roots supercharger. if you do highway driving, get 4.10s. nitrous? 4.10s. vortech/pro charger/etc? 4.10s. there's no need to even ask the question.

they should make like a java script to have a popup every time someone enters the site. "please don't post asking what gears to use. get 4.10s or get nothing at all. thank you."

what about for the 98 GT stock? everyone and their grandma here says 4.10+ for everything... the only problem is that every mechanic i've talked to (speed shop owner, and an SVT mechanic) so far say 3.73 for my stang is the way to go...

Trust me. I've had people that have worked on Mustangs for years tell me 3:73. But everyone who drives a 4:10 says 4:10 or nothing, so I got one and I'm so happy I went with the 4:10.

Best is subjective. 4.10s will make your car faster in the quarter, atleast if it's naturally aspirated. 4.30s are probably even better for many people. Some would rather have 3.90s, 3.73s, or even 3.55s. It's a personal choice. For many people expecting a big jump, 3.73s can be a bit of a let down. They are still certainly better than stock since they cut out much of the sluggish effect of the cars at low RPMs. 3.55s feel too much like stock. 3.90s are a nice compromise and might be the way to go if you've got a good shop to install them (or else they'll whine).

More people regret the 3.73s instead of 4.10s than the other way around but I've heard both sides.

if your stock is 3.27 than
3.55 = 8.6% (increase in effective torque as well as decrease in top mph of each gear)
3.73 = 14.1%
3.90 = 19.3%
4.10 = 25.4%
4.30 = 31.5%
