Default Why different

Hi people, Last night I traded in my 05 v6 stang and 04 f-150 for 2 04 stang gt's. His and Hers! I have a big question? My wifes stang has an auto tranny and my has a manual. I picked hers up first stopped at the gas station put in 87 octane drove away, looked at the gas gauge and thought sh%$,premium fuel only, no big deal for now! picked mine up, stopped at the station looked, no sign by the gauge? Looked in manual, manual recommends 87 octane? Why are they different? Tranny's? would'nt think so. I put 60 miles on hers with 87 oct. in it and no pinging. Can anybody help me with this question.

Good question, too bad I dont know the answer. I thought that all the GT's were to take 87 octane, and that anything else is a waste of money. Maybe the people who owned the car before you did something to where it needs premium fuel. Is there alot of mods or a power adder? Just a thought because I dont really know.

How would previous owner mods change what the manual or cluster says?

if the previous owner bumped up the timing in the engine then premium fuel will be

needed, maybe the dealer or him/her put that sticker on to make sure the next

owner knew

If you're not having any problems with pinging on 87, don't waste money on the expensive stuff.

Cars aren't rocket science. If you know the concepts and understand the car, you don't really need the idiot stickers.
If there is no pinging, detonation, or knocking, you are seriously just wasting money since that's the only fuction that octane serves. Perhaps the engine's ECU was programmed to run a bit leaner to increase gas milage and they just wanted to overcompensate with octane but if your particular car ran fine on 87, than you're cool.

The premium fuel only sign is not a sticker. It is factory printed on the gauge face. So none of you guys have that on your gauge face? Fallstar is right on the octane purpose, and I have always known higher octane in an engine that was'nt designed for it does not really improve performance(the way I've learnedit). Like people that go to the strip and on the way put in racing fuel or aviation fuel are going to smell different but not really improve the cars performance unless they stop by the local race shop and have some higher compression pistons and so forth put in it. If anyone has that writin on their gauge cluster or have any further input PLEASE talk to me because I don't know if the dealership will be much help. THANKS

can you take a picture of the gauges where it says this?? i have a feeling that maybe someone changed to faces from a car that does take 93 and maybe someone on here could recognize them
