rear axle.
Me and my friend both have 98 mustang gts and we know that they make stock gears 2.73 (i might be off by one or 2 points cant rember off the top of my head) but they have upgrades that come with i tyhnk 3.27 or close to it. In the door panel he has a code but i have a diff. Mine reads AM Under the "axle" part. Does ne 1 know the codes and which 1s tell u what gears u have??? thanx

RE: rear axle.
Mine says 3.27 and some other numbers on the rear diff cover there is a metal tag there, crawl under there and see if it says. If not write down that number and call any gear vendor. They should be able to tell you for shure by this tag ID.

RE: rear axle.
My '98 GT vert had I believe a "Z" code which is 3.08 gears. My rpm's at 60 and 70 mph confirm that rating which is about 2000 rpm's at right around 70 mph in top gear (auto OD). Some info from another thread:
The stock gear ratio is in the door tag drivers side.
"ax" code m=2.73 z=3.08 e=3.27 (aod only)
To see what exactly is in it, you need to raise the rear tires off the ground, chalk the tire , and the driveshaft. w/ the car in neutral....spin the tire 1 complete revolution EXACTLY.... count how many times the drive shaft spins for that 1 turn of the wheel.
How many turns will tell you your ratio..... 2 3/4 = 2.73
3 1/2 turns = 3.55
3 3/4 = 3.73
a little over 4 turns is 4.10
Otherwise, do a net search for Mustang rearend codes and see what you come up with.
