I was under the impression that GT's and v6's have the same brakes and only cobras have better brakes.

me too but in theory it seems like a pretty straight forward swap, but i would be more interested to know if cobra brakes would fit instead

they have cobra upgrade kits, but I think you need to have a 17" or bigger rim for them to fit.

So I should get the cobra upgrades after I put on my new rims. Also since a GT is more powerful than a 6 shouldnt it have better brakes

Its more determined by weight I'd imagine. And since the v6 and gt have close to the same weight I'd assume they put the same brakes on them. Now the Cobra probably has better brakes because it is more likely to be driven spiritedly (is that a word) than the v6/GT.

there's a sale on the cobra conversion kit at mustangtuning.com today.

i have gt brakes (cuz i have a gt, duh) and they are OKAY.. but if you care about brakes, i'd definitely get the cobra ones.. i'll probably end up getting them later when I save up some $ and do a few mods.

http://performancepartsinc.com/suspension.htm

Pick up the kits for the front and rear from there. $400 for front, $400 for rear. Front comes with two calipers, two 13" rotors, and two brake lines. Rear comes with two calipers, two 11.5" rotors (? not sure exact size) and two caliper mounting brackets. The new stuff weighs a LOT more than the factory stuff on my 04 GT (pretty close to double) and it is all unsprung weight, but the difference in braking power with just the front ones on is very noticiable... I was able to trigger the ABS at 95 MPH. The biggest thing you'll notice from the swap is a large gain in high speed braking power. Your factory brakes can lock up at 45 no problem, but if you try that at 80, it just won't happen.

Anyway, the kits are just swaps from the Cobra. On the site you've got your choice of a black caliper that says Cobra, a red one that says Cobra, and a red one with a silver running pony (from the Bullitt). All should have the rest of the same stuff.

I have the fronts on right now, and I can safely say, they will NOT fit on a 16" wheel. You need 17"+ With my factory bullitt wheels, there's about 1/4 an inch clearance from the top of the caliper to the back of the wheel, and less than that between the raised Cobra lettering on the caliper and the spokes of the wheel... let me say it looks AWESOME though. I am waiting to do the back because I need to pull the axles because the caliper mounting brackets for the rear need to be swapped when switching to a larger rotor. I will be doing a writeup on it once I finish the back. Keep your eyes out for it.
