Default 2 Problems

My 1998 Mustang GT 5 Speed has 2 problems im a little concerned about.

First of all:

Sometimes, shifting into 3rd gear, it grinds. Its only been 3rd gear and im not doing anything wrong; clutch is fully depressed and whatnot. Im afraid the grinding is going to cause i bigger problem. Does anyone know what the problem is or if a short throw shifter can help

Secondly:

When taking a corner hard or long, the rear end of the car makes a dry, rubbing noise. Its coming from the rear of the car, I have no payed much attention to that but more details will be on the way

Thanks Alot

I had the exact same problem with my car. I hate to say it, but you have a bad syncro for the third gear, and if its been doing the grindind for more than a few days, you also will need to replace third gear. I had mine repaired, and the warranty total was a few dollars over $1000, but of course thats the dealership cost. Mine started this problem when I was using the short throw shifter, so adding one will do nothing for the problem. Good luck..

I dunno if this will sound stupid to you or not, but today i tried double clutching 3rd gear, and no grinding at all. Right now i dont have 1 g to spend on my car since im a high school student with a tight budget but i had a feelin it was the syncro. Thanks Alot for the advice, i appreciate it

Good call vfast. If you need to save dough, its pretty easy to work around 2nd or 3rd gear.
