Default Limited Slip Differentials

I'm going to have 4.10 gears installed within the next 3 weeks, and was talking to the owner of our local speed shop who is going to do the installation. He had asked me if I wanted them to install a better LSD while they had the stock one taken out to save on labor if I wanted to do it in the future. I hadn't given a replacement differential much though, and am now curious to see what the benefits could be. In other words, if the added traction would be worth the cost of the new differential at all.

I have been looking at it for a bit tonight, and trying to see which one would be the best and how much better they really are over the stock differential. I have come up with Auburn, Torson, and the shop had recommended TracTech TrueTrac as another good one. I have read a little on each, and am still learning the basics.

What are your thoughts ?

Why ?

What do you think makes Eaton better than Auburn, Torson, etc...

I dunno his reasons why...but I know everywhere I look and all the fast Mustangs I see all say they have Eaton 31Spline Posi with 31 Spline axles.

Auburns are disposable and every component on an Eaton is rebuildable.

I forgot all about Eaton when I had made this post, but as you said...I do remember seeing them quite often in magazines and other reports.

I'd like to know the technical side of it, if anyone knows. What exactly is going on in there that makes one so much better than the other?

Ah, that would certainly make a difference. What about the tracton advantages of each?

Also, if I did decide on an Eaton differential...would it be that much of an advantage to replace the stock unit with it? It looks like it may cost around $480 for an Eaton in the few places I've looked just now, I'm curious if it would really be worth it. I WILL be going 31-spline eventually, so that may be a consideration. I'd like to have a set of slicks for drag use in the future.

If you aren't ready to upgrade to 31 spline axles, then I would wait.

Nope, nowhere near ready.

I won't even be getting slicks for quite sometime. Drag radials MAYBE by this summer. Taking things one step at a time, but I don't see actually NEEDING a 31spline rear for a while.

I will be selling a 28 spline torsen for with about 1000 miles on it within the next couple of weeks if you are interested.
