Default weird noise

well my car was sitting outside in the school parking lot all day and it was raining fairly hard. When i went out and started my car to warm it up, it made a sound for about 5 seconds that was like nails on a chalkboard, it was like a screech. any idea what this could be, it drove fine and nothing looked funny. im thinking it was because it was in the rain. has this happened to anyone before? It happened to me once before after it was sitting out in the rain. it was also cold out if that helps. thanks

Might be pulley slippage... if it wasn't due to condesation buildup(which it sounds like it isnt) check the seal around the edge of the shaker, and the shaker's drain pipes (the one in the rubber and in the tube). Jacksonville, NC gets some INSANE rainstorms and I never get pulley slippage like that.... and Im @ 31k miles with no belt change.... :-p

woah woah... my 97 GT does the same thing! I posted about this a while ago. I did an experiment.. i started, and held the starter on a few seconds, and the second I let go of the key it screeched. I know it is the starter... the over-running clutch on the pinion gear is dry/doesn' tlike the cold from the best of my knowledge. As long as it starts up, and doesn't get stuck on, don't worry. Just an annoying thing... glad to see my noises aren't fluke ones!

My '98GT makes a screech like that, too. Only from a cold start & only for a few seconds. The noise sounds like it comes from the middle/slightly toward passenger side. I was guessing pulley on mine...

Nice to know I'm not the only one that hears that God-awful noise. I'm headed out of state in the next few weeks & will be getting mine repaired before I leave. I'll let you guys know what it turns out to be on mine.
