VIN Engine Code Help
According to the Haynes Repair Manual for '94-'03 Mustangs, the available engine codes are:
4 - 3.8l V6
W - 4.6l SOHC V8
V - 4.6l DOHC V8
T - 5.0l H.O. V8
D - 5.0l Cobra V8
I have a 2000 GT and my corresponding VIN engine code letter is an 'X'. What the heck does that mean?
Any thoughts?

you're reading your code wrong....or it's a ford ****up.

No, I'm quite sure that I counted to 8 correctly and it was an X. Since the other characters around it are numbers, I'm pretty sure that's it.
Haynes could be wrong too, I just didn't know if this was something that was seen often or I got a factory reject or something...you know, like X'd out Top-Flites at the driving range.
"Hey, lookee there, it's Newb2000GT and his Dork-Stang, X'd out VIN and all."
VIN starts with 1FAFP42X2Y...
According to Haynes, the 8th digit is the engine code and the 10th digit is the model year...and the Y indicates 2000, which I agree with.
Just thought I'd throw it out there...thanks.
That offers a lot more VIN info than Haynes.
